How to install a Robinsun solar kit in a three-phase system
Recently, we have received questions from customers about installing solar kits with a three-phase electrical system at home. It is absolutely possible, and in this blog we will explain what a three-phase system is and how to install a solar kit there.
What is a three-phase electrical system?
Three-phase systems are commonly used in commercial buildings and larger homes due to their ability to handle higher energy demands. Currently there are many cases in which new homes are built on industrial lands that have this three-phase system by default. Unlike single-phase systems, which use one alternating current (AC) waveform, three-phase systems use three separate AC waveforms working together.
They have the following advantages:
- Balanced energy distribution: Power delivery is more consistent and balanced across the system.
- Higher power capacity: Can handle higher loads, making it ideal for homes with electric heating, air conditioning, or other power-intensive appliances.
- Energy efficiency: Reduces the strain on electrical circuits.
Installing a solar kit in a three-phase system
Our Tsun microinverters are designed for single-phase systems but are fully compatible with three-phase installations. You can easily connect a plugin solar kit to one phase of your three-phase system, ideally the phase with the highest energy demand, where large appliances are connected like your kitchen phase, air conditioning or pool purifier.
For larger solar kits (more than two panels), we recommend splitting them into separate kits, using one microinverter per phase to ensure balanced power distribution and system stability.
Certify your solar kit
It’s essential to certify your solar kits if you want to receive compensation for surplus energy. Certification ensures compliance with local regulations and guarantees the safety of your system. Currently, we offer certification services exclusively in Spain. If you have installed your kit across different phases, the certification is mandatory and will be a single global certification for the entire house, with the "three-phase" label included in the specifications. Prices may vary depending on the location. Check the CIE page for more details.
Conclusion
You can install our Robinsun Performance solar kits in your three-phase system without problems. At Robinsun, we seek to provide solutions for all kinds of solar kits installations, no matter in electrical systems or locations.
